From the Principal – December 2016

      From the Principal

Hello Wolf Pack!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break with lots of time with family and friends.  We are almost to the end of the semester and there are many important dates coming up.

End of Course Re-Testing is December 5th – 9th.  English 1 will be on December 5th, Biology and US History will be on December 6th, English II will be on December 7th, and Algebra will be on December 8th.  Make up testing will be December 9th.  If your student needs to re-test, please be sure he/she gets a good night sleep, eats breakfast, and is on time to school on testing days.  These EOC tests are a requirement for graduation.

The end of the 2nd 9 weeks grading period is on Friday, December 16th.  The grade that a student earns for the 2nd 9 weeks determines a student’s UIL Eligibility not the first semester grade.  It is very important that students have all work completed and turned in for that December 16th deadline.  Final exams will be December 13th – December 16th.  Attached is a copy of the final exam schedule.  Students will not be allowed to take their final exams early, so families should make their travel plans after exams end.

To calculate a student’s semester grade, the average of the 1st and 2nd 9 weeks grades count 80% of the semester grade and the final exam counts 20%.  It is the semester grade that is recorded on the student’s transcript, so it is important that every student finishes the semester strong.

On Thursday, December 15th and Friday, December 16th we will have early release at 12:20 pm and buses will run accordingly.  Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD will be closed December 19th – January 2nd for the winter holiday.  Students return to classes on Wednesday, January 4th for the start of the second semester.

The Fine Arts Department is preparing many Winter Holiday concerts to help you get in the holiday spirit.  On December 6th, there will be a combined concert with the choir, band and orchestra at 7:00 pm in the Ranchview Auditorium.  Then on Saturday, December 10th the Orchestra will host their feeder pattern concert at Ranchview with students from Bush Middle School starting at 3:00 pm in the Performance Gym.  Both of these events are a great opportunity to invite a friends and neighbors to see the many wonderful things that are happening in the Fine Arts Department at Ranchview High School.

Also, we invite you to come and cheer on the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams as they play in tournaments and in pre-district play before the holidays.  There is always something going on at Ranchview, and we invite you to be a part of the excitement!  All of the game times and locations can be found on the Ranchview website.

Have a wonderful holiday season and GO Wolves!
